 The Siege of Lincoln

During the English Civil War, Lincoln was the locus of a key siege led by the Parliamentarians against the Royalists loyal to King Charles I.  Lincoln Castle, and its governor, were captured by soldiers who scaled the castle walls on 6 May 1644.  Two months later Parliamentarians led by Oliver Cromwell won a decisive victory at the Battle of Marston Moor in Yorkshire.
