December Diary
The demise of the Lincoln Christmas market’s has been widely publicised, ending a beloved ritual of Luxe Lincolnshire’s festive season.
What will we be doing instead in December 2023?
1. Suede at The Engine Shed, Lincoln
On 10 December you’ll find Luxe Lincolnshire front row at The Engine Shed to witness louche 90s rockers Suede. We’re expecting classic hits such as Animal Nitrate, Metal Mickey and Beautiful Ones.
2. Bailgate Shopping
Peruse the Bailgate shops without the Christmas Market crowds. We will be picking up a bottle or two of Chateauneuf-du-Pape from Steep Hill Wines, handmade tree decorations from Follie, and crowning the evening with a mince pie and a hot chocolate at The Wig & Mitre.
3. Deck The Halls
Looking to party but not relishing the catering and clean up? The Luxe Lincolnshire team and their special someones will be rocking around the Christmas tree at Belton Woods Hotel. Dinner and entertainment from 47.50.
4. Winter Wonderland
Believed to have developed as a mode of transport in Finland, Canada, parts of China, and other frozen locations, ice-skating has become a yuletide staple. Grimsby Ice Rink offers something for everyone from lessons to private bookings. Peterborough’s Planet Ice is also within a comfortable distance for those in the south of the county.
5. Chill Zone
If you can’t make it to Gstaad this year and climate change means it doesn’t really feel like Christmas at home then pile on your cashmere knits and make your way to Skegness to sample The Ice Experience. Modelled on an immersive ski experience, including The Avalanche Bar, you can brave the chill on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Further Afield: at Luxe Lincolnshire our go-to December holiday spots are:
Reims: our very own Scarlet Luxe Lincolnshire will be making her winter pilgrimage to Reims. Admire the beauty of Reims cathedral with its Christmas market and brush up on your sommelier skills at one of the various champagne houses. When in Paris Scarlet stays at the boutique, and classically elegant, Maison Proust.
Eurostar or fly to Paris from various international airports. From Paris take the train for around 45 minutes to Reims.
Vermont: new Luxe Lincolnshire team member Charlie see in Christmas and the New Year in Vermont, USA. Charlie recommends renting a cabin for greetings-card perfect scenes. A truly winter outdoors destination for all the family, this pocket of New England offers horse-drawn sleighs, skiing and snowmobiles.
Fly to Boston Massachusetts with Virgin Airlines and drive three and a half hours north to Burlington.
Doha: Luxe Lincolnshire’s Allegra prefers to avoid the whole thing. Allegra will be perusing the art galleries and luxury malls of Doha and cradling a cocktail at the Mandarin Oriental.
Flights with Qatar Airways directly from Manchester, Birmingham and London Heathrow.
